To Swallow A Star

Stars are hard to come by this age
since we keep our heads in cages
Centuries ago since people could only look to one another, and to the skies
Some men found ways to keep them
"Eat one on your darkest day"-
whispered the elders
Long hair flowing like a river
Hiding my tears
I swallowed the star
It tasted tart, like the seeds of a pomegranate
People love to watch bright things
fall from the heights
Is it a forbidden for something of earth To touch A strand of heaven? I wipe starlight from my salted lips Mysteries of the universe ablaze within me
