Jeanelle Fu is a Taiwanese-American poet and creative storyteller who resides with her husband in Los Angeles. Her poems have been performed at UCLA, translated into multiple languages and featured in various literary journals. She has experience with spoken word and collaborating across mediums such as film and dance. She is currently accepting commissions.

Jeanelle Fu is a creative writer and typewriter poet based in Los Angeles. Her work "Blueprints" is featured in the LA County library. She is a 2026 recipient of honorable mention from the Betty L. How can you sum up a person's life in a poem? After writing countless poems for strangers over the past three years I'm still honored by the glimpse I get into people's corners.
I think writing needs to be tended in private and that is really where a story grows and takes shape, where you can refine it and give it a name. But I think the work I do, live poetry has taught me many things. I feel like a journalist, a photographer, a florist. I am a bartender mixing something to hit right at that given moment. An EMT patching an open wound. The poem is not just random musings but a mirror reflecting myself and the person who is sitting before me. I somehow get the privilege of bringing the unspoken and buried, the hidden things into the light. And the delight is unmistakable- when someone feels just a little more seen, rediscovering their spark, or able to hold themselves more gently, I feel as though I have fulfilled my purpose. It still surprises me, how a few lines can bring someone to tears, or become something that they want to frame.
Most people will probably never have a personalized poem written for them in this life- maybe from lovers or friends. I hope to help people reconnect with their inner child, to feel worthy of a poem even if everything is falling apart.
